It wonderful that you enjoy our blog and thanks for reading. Marj
Hello! My name is Marj Phillips and I was born and raised in the Midwest in the grand state of Iowa, “Go Hawks”. I am currently retired from my previous position as the Executive Director for a Real Estate Association here in TX. My previous life included teaching high school speech, working as a Youth Director, a Marketing coordinator for a law firm, Office manager at an accounting firm as well as numerous volunteer activities. Several years back I worked towards an MBA and completed 22 hours of finance classes when I decided I had enough tests and school work and wanted to move into another position. But my volunteer activity has always been a source of inspiration to me and especially my work with the Christian Experience Weekend (CEW). This is a retreat format, similar to many others, where members of the Christian community come together to learn more about God and hopefully deepen their faith life and build a relationship with Christ.
After working on numerous retreats, providing workshops on faith, working in Youth Ministry and as a Youth Minister, it became clear that there was to be more. There was a longing for something new, something far reaching and something that would continue to build community in a way that the retreat weekends have done. I have been involved in writing for a number of years; writing for work, writing within a writers group and just writing. So the idea of a blog seemed to fit all of the criteria. But I’m not so great at working alone. I’ve worked towards building community for so long, that I don’t do anything by myself. It is my belief that it takes a team/village/town, whatever your description, to accomplish a large task and I feel that creating this blog is a large task! Especially if it’s to become something that others will actually read.
I’m grateful to have found a wonderful team and you can meet them all here in the About Us section. Each of us has a different style, different knowledge, and different experiences which hopefully together will provide something of interest that will help you also grow in your faith and knowledge of God.
